Purpose	Identify the minimum server resources needed for a basic CAREWare Business Tier installation.
Who should do this	IT staff who plan, install, or maintain the CAREWare Business Tier server.
Use this guide when you need to	Plan a new installation or confirm that a server has enough processing power, memory, storage, software, and network bandwidth.
Main warning	Include the requirements for Windows and SQL Server when sizing the server. Additional users, attachments, and backup files may require more resources.

Network: 10 Mbps network bandwidth

Important: If the server can run SQL Server 2017 Standard, it can run the CAREWare Business Tier.

Minimum Requirements

The CAREWare Business Tier requires a 1.4 GHz 64-bit processor, 1 GB of hard drive space, 2 GB of RAM, .NET Framework 4.8, and 10 Mbps of network bandwidth for a basic installation. SQL Server and SQL Server Management Studio are also required for installing and running CAREWare.

Compatibility

CAREWare 6 is compatible with the latest versions of Windows Server and SQL Server.

Capacity Planning

For more than 50 users, add 4 GB of RAM above the requirements for SQL Server and Windows on the Business Tier server. A 1.4 GHz single-core processor is sufficient to run CAREWare. If there are many users, 2 GHz or more processing power may be necessary. SQL Server has several settings that take advantage of multi-core processors, so additional processor capacity is beneficial.

Storage and Backups

CAREWare requires little hard drive space. Add less than 1 GB beyond the requirements for SQL Server and Windows unless users store attachments in the Business Tier folder.

Backup files can also increase the required hard drive space. Make sure the server has enough room for backups, establish a process for managing backup space, or configure CAREWare or SQL Server to store backups on a separate drive.
