Purpose	Install CAREWare 6 on a new server.
Who should do this	IT staff responsible for CAREWare server, SQL Server, and service configuration.
Use this guide when you need to	Install a new CAREWare 6 environment and connect it to its CAREWare database.
Main warning	Start the CAREWare Business Tier Service before the CAREWare HTTP Service.

Quick path
Download and install the Business Tier and HTTP Server → Install SQL Server → Create the CAREWare database → Configure the connection string → Verify services → Install Message Queuing → Log in.

Important: Save the database connection string as an XML file and replace the original file. The default password for the cwbt login is CWtemp100%.

Before you begin

These are instructions for installing CAREWare 6 on a new server. For instructions on upgrading CAREWare 6 to the newest build, click here.

Here are some things to consider when installing CAREWare.

Install CAREWare 6

Step 1. Download the CAREWare Business Tier and HTTP Server here.

Step 2. Run the CAREWare Business Tier and CAREWare HTTP Server installation files listed under the build number.

Step 3. Install a SQL Server database instance for CAREWare 6 using the CAREWare Setup here.

Step 4. Create the CAREWare database by running the queries here on the CAREWare instance that was created. Click here to download a clean CAREWare database backup file to be used during the installation process. Place the file in a file folder location the SQL Server Database Instance has permission to Read/Write in. The Backup folder in the SQL Server Instance already has Read/Write permission by default.

Step 5. Configure the database connection string by following the instructions here.

Note: In this case the server name is CWHD1 and the database instance name is CAREWare6. The password is for the login cwbt in the CAREWare database. The default password is CWtemp100%.

Step 6. Once the database connection string is complete, save the file.

Note: Make sure the file is saved as an XML file and replaces the original file.

Step 7. Verify the CAREWare Business Tier Service and CAREWare HTTP Services are running in Windows services. If the services are not started, start the CAREWare Business Tier Service first, and then start the CAREWare HTTP Service.

Step 8. Install Message Queuing by following the instructions here.

Step 9. Open a browser and enter the URL http://localhost:8080/careware/rs/index.htm to log in.

CAREWare 6 connects on port 8000 and to the CAREWare database identified in CW Admin.

CAREWare 6 includes options for setting a unique URL and setting additional security features by using the HTTP Server Setup. Click here for instructions for the HTTP Server Setup.

How to confirm it worked

• The CAREWare Business Tier Service and CAREWare HTTP Service are running.

• The CAREWare 6 login page opens at http://localhost:8080/careware/rs/index.htm.
