Instructions to Enter Genvoya or Other Tenofovir Medications

Purpose	Enter medications correctly when two products share one CAREWare DrugCode.
Who should do this	CAREWare administrators who manage Clinical Encounter medication setup.
Use this guide when you need to	Set up Genvoya, Stribild, Complera, Odefsey, Descovy, or Truvada for RSR medication records.
Main warning	These instructions apply to RSR medication records. An NDC is different and is used in the ADAP file only.

Important: Some medication pairs share the same DrugCode in CAREWare. Use the custom name, total daily dose, and comment field together to identify the medication.

Before You Begin

Genvoya and Stribild share the same DrugCode in CAREWare. Genvoya uses tenofovir alafenamide (TAF), while Stribild uses tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF). The two products also have different total daily doses. This guide explains how to tell them apart in RSR medication records.
The same duplicate DrugCode issue affects these medication pairs:
- Genvoya and Stribild
- Complera and Odefsey
- Descovy and Truvada

Set up Genvoya and Stribild

Step 1. Open Admin Options > Clinical Encounter Setup > Medications Setup > Advanced Options > Edit Custom Name.

Step 2. Change the custom drug name to Stribild or Genvoya.

Step 3. Use the total daily dose to tell the medications apart: 800 mg for Stribild and 510 mg for Genvoya. This amount is the total for all four drugs in the combination.

Step 4. When prescribing the medication, enter Genvoya or Stribild in the comment field.

Tip: Use the medication name in the comment field even when the total daily dose is entered. This makes the record easier to review.

Use the Genvoya custom report

A custom report is available to help identify clients taking Genvoya. Download the Genvoya custom report. Import the report into CAREWare by using the Import from File option in Custom Reports.

Set up Complera and Odefsey

Step 1. Open Admin Options > Clinical Encounter Setup > Medications Setup > Advanced Options > Edit Custom Name.

Step 2. Change the custom drug name to Complera or Odefsey.

Step 3. Use the total daily dose to tell the medications apart: 525 mg for Complera and 250 mg for Odefsey. This amount is the total for all drugs in the combination.

Step 4. When prescribing the medication, enter Complera or Odefsey in the comment field.

Set up Descovy and Truvada

Step 1. Open Admin Options > Clinical Encounter Setup > Medications Setup > Advanced Options > Edit Custom Name.

Step 2. Change the custom drug name to Descovy or Truvada.

Step 3. Use the total daily dose to tell the medications apart: 500 mg for Truvada and 225 mg for Descovy. This amount is the total for both drugs in the combination.

Step 4. When prescribing the medication, enter Descovy or Truvada in the comment field.

How to confirm it worked

• The custom medication name shows both product names in CAREWare.

• The total daily dose matches the selected medication.

• The comment field states the medication name.

Troubleshooting and common questions

Why do two medications share one DrugCode?

The products contain related forms of tenofovir and are grouped under the same DrugCode in the RSR medication setup. Use the custom name, dose, and comment to show which product was prescribed.

Does this change the ADAP file?

No. These instructions apply to RSR medication records. The NDC used in the ADAP file is separate from the DrugCode described here.

What if the medication is still unclear?

Check the custom name, total daily dose, and comment field. All three should identify the same medication.
