Common Storage Values

Common Storage Settings can be adjusted in the user interface, in the business tier using the CW Admin Utility, or in the database. It is ideal to update the settings in the user interface when a restart isn't required. Some settings require the CAREWare Business Tier to be restarted or can only be edited while the CAREWare Business Tier is stopped.

To edit Common Storage Settings in CAREWare follow these instructions:

  1. Log into Central Administrations.
  2. Click Administrative Options.
  3. Click Server Management.
  4. Click Common Storage Values.

  1. Click the Variable Name.
  2. Click View.
  3. Click Edit.
  4. Change the Value.
  5. Click Save.

The column Can Update describes a value that can be edited in the user interface. There are also ReadOnly values that are viewable and provide information for the user about CAREWare. If the value is listed as Editable In List, the user can view and edit the value in Common Storage Values. If the value has a list of buttons to click, that leads to where in CAREWare the value can be edited. An example is AddEncounter, where the value is listed as 1 and the Can Update value is Administrative Options>Data Import and Export Features>HL7 Socket Interface>Interface Settings. The user can click View and then Edit and edit the value here in Common Storage Values or go to the Interface Settings and edit the value there.

To adjust Common Storage Settings in the CAREWare Business Tier follow these instructions:

  1. Go to C:\Program Files\CAREWare Business Tier
  2. Right click CW Admin.
  3. Click Stop Server.
  4. Click Common Storage Settings.
  5. Click a value and change it.
  6. Click a blank space to save it.
  7. Click Server Settings.
  8. Click Start Server.

Note: As seen in the instructions, editing settings using the CAREWare Business Tier requires stopping the CAREWare application, so all users need to be logged out at the time.

Some settings can be updated in the CAREWare database, however it is recommended to edit the settings in the user interface or using the CAREWare Business Tier to ensure the integrity of the system and to make sure the settings are properly read by the CAREWare Business Tier in order to take effect, which may require a restart anyway.
