Poverty Level Assessments

CAREWare calculates a client’s Federal Poverty Level (FPL) based on household income and household size. FPL is required for eligibility determination and the Ryan White Services Report (RSR), and the data may be used for Clinical Quality Management, Annual HIV/AIDS Needs Assessments, service utilization reports, and other program requirements.

Poverty Level Assessments in CAREWare 6

1. Click on Annual Review in the left menu.

2. Click on Poverty Level Assessments.

3. Click Add.

 

View: View the details of the selected record.

Add: Add a new poverty level assessment.

Edit: Edit an existing poverty level assessment.

Delete: Delete an existing poverty level assessment.

Back: Return to the Annual Data menu.

Help: Access the user guide for poverty level assessments.

Print or Export: Print or export a list of poverty level assessment records.

Hide/Show Columns: Choose the columns to show in the list of poverty level assessment records.

 

NOTE: Date, household size, and household income are required to calculate the client’s FPL and for RSR reporting. Individual income is optional.

 

4. Complete the fields for Date, Household Size, and Household Income to calculate the client’s FPL. Complete the field for Individual Income if required by your program.

 

 

The following Poverty Level Assessments fields complete the RSR and ADR question:

  • Date, Household Size, and Household Income: Used to calculate the federal poverty level for Q.9 of the RSR Client’s percent of the federal poverty level and Q.11 of the ADR Client’s percent of the federal poverty level

5. Click Save.

 

How to Update FPL Calculations in CAREWare

Each year, the Federal Department of Health & Human Services releases Federal Poverty Levels. The guidelines are typically available in late January. After HHS releases the guidelines, providers need to upgrade CAREWare to the build with the latest FPL calculations.

CAREWare features data import options that can be used for updating poverty level assessments in client records.
